SYDNEY (AP)—With no apparent replacement for Pim Verbeek in sight, Football Federation Australia has asked technical director Han Berger to coach the Socceroos for their Aug. 11 friendly against Slovenia in Ljubljana.

Verbeek said before the World Cup, where the Socceroos failed to advance past the first round, that he would not continue with Australia and he instead took up a developmental coaching role with Morocco.

Berger is a former coach of the Netherlands Olympic team. He moved to Australia in November 2008.
